About us
Diablo Valley Walkers started in the spring of 2011, when three neighbors in Walnut Creek realized they were each walking the same loop at Heather Farm, alone, every Saturday morning. They started walking together, then a few friends joined, then a few friends of friends.
Fifteen years later we have about 60 people on the email list and usually 10 to 20 on any given Saturday. Some of us are retired, some are working, some are new to the area and looking to meet people. A few have been coming since the very first walk.
We're not a fitness club and there's no pressure. We walk, we talk, we look at the hills, and most weeks we finish with coffee. That's it, and it turns out to be plenty.
Join us
Membership is free. All we ask is that you join the email list so you get the Thursday note with the meeting spot, and that you sign a simple walk-at-your-own-risk form at your first walk.
Some members chip in $15 a year toward the holiday potluck and the occasional first-aid kit refill, but that's entirely optional.
Or write to hello@diabloevalleywalkers.com with any questions. Ruth or Dennis will get back to you, usually within a day or two.
Frequently asked
I haven't walked in a while. Can I keep up?
Yes. The Strollers group goes at a gentle, chatty pace and takes plenty of breaks.
Can I bring a friend or a grandchild?
Of course. Kids are welcome with an adult.
Do you ever walk on weekdays?
A few members do an informal Wednesday walk. Ask about it when you join the list.
